If you have a spare twenty minutes, I’d highly recommend viewing this video in which Elisabeth Biondi chats to photographer Matthew Leifheit.
Discussing layout, movement and gesture, even if you’re not too keen on Leifheit’s ‘Around Sunset‘ I think you’ll enjoy the video. A highly aesthetic collection, unfortunately, for me, it feels like an exploration rather than a dedicated project with a charged narrative (Leifheit does state his images are not a document or narrative) but they are nonetheless very interesting.
Leifheit also continues to discuss Matte Magazine, solely edited and produced and designed by Leifheit. It is currently collected by the Museum of Modern Art NY, and features one artist per issue. A pretty impressive project that began as his thesis – especially considering his sole influence.
