A little while ago, Francesca Solloway was selected as a 1839 Daily contributor, and at the time the image she submitted was part of a growing body of work.
She has been kind enough to forward the now completed body of work, a self-portait series with touching relevance. I’m delighted to showcase it here.
My name is Francesca Solloway, at nineteen years old I am studying photography at Southampton Solent University of which I am currently heading into my second year of. Much of my work involves the ideas memories, nature and the ways in which we interact with the world.
Since birth I have suffered with a condition called Synovial Hemangioma, its caused my great pain yet I feel that it has made me the person that I am today and that now was the time in my life to document it. All the images explore different feelings that I have toward my leg the idea of vulnerability to comfort, from memory to fighting back to those that have treated me differently, through the use of text and song lyrics.
