About Lovers and Liars: Lovers & Liars was created using plastic figures, which are 4mm tall. I’d seen a few photographers work with small figurines, but they had only been used to portray funny, satirical images – I really wanted to stay away from this. These images are about relationships, the plastic figurines were purely my models – the scenes were planned in a similar way to what they would have been had I been using real life models.

I wanted the images to tell a story, not in a timeline sense but hopefully in a way that will engage with the viewer and make them ask “what’s happened there?” “why is he/she there and not there?”. I enlarged some of the images up to B1 size for an exhibition and I loved the detail, or lack of, of the paintwork on the figurines. Exhibiting the images that large changed the whole perspective of the series; tiny figures instantly became significant and central to the “story”.
